A Norwegian shipyard has been contracted to build a field support vessel (FSV), for a major offshore project in the Black Sea, incorporating advanced bridge systems and automation on board the vessel
OMV’s Romanian subsidiary Petrom has contracted Green Yard Kleven to build a multi-purpose support vessel to permanently operate at the Neptun Deep development in the Black Sea.
As part of the production infrastructure for Romania’s first deepwater offshore project, the field service vessel (FSV) is scheduled for delivery in H2 2026 for operations at what is to be an unmanned gas platform.
The vessel will be built to a MT-6067 FSV design Norwegian company Marin Teknikk as a base for technicians for maintenance on the platform and to carry out inspection, maintenance and repair work at the field, plus transporting people and supplies to the facilities.
Equipment on board will include an SMST walk-to-work walkway, offshore crane, FiFi1 class fire-fighting system and dual VSAT satellite communications, and it will have accommodation for 90 people in single cabins with a full complement of lifeboats. The hull of the 89.5-m vessel will be built by subcontractor Montex in Poland and is expected to arrive in Ulsteinvik, Norway, at the beginning of 2026.
Automation, propulsion and bridge technology
HAV Group subsidiary Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) will supply an advanced, integrated bridge system, dynamic positioning (DP), electric distribution and automation.
NES is supplying the DNV-classed newbuild FSV with its IAS (integrated automation system) and Raven INS (integrated navigation system). The systems will be delivered with a CBT notation from DNV, denoting a closed bus-tie configuration.
For propulsion, the vessel will receive frequency converters and electric motors, a battery system, transformers and the company’s proprietary Quadro Master switchboard – a DC power distribution switchboard that enables the use of variable speed generators. The Quadro Master is supported by NES’ Odin’s Eye, enabling a DC-ring system configuration.
“According to DNV, closed bus-ties have emerged as a viable solution to enhance energy efficiency,” said Norwegian Electric Systems managing director Siv Remøy-Vangen.
“These allow the integration of DP power systems and reduce the number of generator sets that need to run simultaneously. This leads to optimised power-sharing, reduced fuel consumption and emissions, fewer engine hours, and lower maintenance costs.
“Additionally, a system with active and reactive power-sharing across bus ties can mitigate and reduce the consequences of certain failure modes,” she said.

NES said the first deliveries for this project would be made in Q2 2025, with final deliveries and commissioning being undertaken in Q2 2026.
