Qatari shipping company Nakilat reported that its newest ME-GI propulsion LNG carrier, Global Energy, has been fixed under a charter to Cheniere Marketing International LLP
The Qatari shipowner reported the charter on social media. Global Energy is commercially and technically managed by Nakilat.
As LNG Shipping & Terminals reported in August, Global Energy is the first newbuild LNG carrier fitted with ME-GI propulsion to join its fleet and the first of four new gas carriers under a joint venture with long-term partner Maran Ventures, controlled by billionaire John Angelicoussis.
Global Energy’s main propulsion plant consists of two 5GME70-C5.9-GI-Tier III engines, each with a maximum continuous rating of 12,590 kW at 69 rpm. The engines were manufactured under licence by Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Cheniere Marketing International is an indirectly wholly owned subsidiary of US-based energy company Cheniere Energy, Inc, responsible for the international marketing of the LNG produced at Cheniere’s LNG terminals on the US Gulf Coast in excess of LNG sold under long-term sales contracts to third-party customers.
Meanwhile, Global Energy is part of Nakilat’s growing inhouse managed fleet. In September, it assumed full ship management and operations of Q-Flex LNG carrier Al Rekayyat from Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited under the second phase of its planned fleet management transition programme.
With a cargo carrying capacity of 216,300 m3, Al Rekayyat is owned by Nakilat and chartered by Qatargas. The vessel was built by South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered in June 2009.
Al Rekayyat is the sixth vessel that has come under the management of Nakilat Shipping Qatar Ltd (NSQL) this year, bringing the number of vessels managed by NSQL to 25, comprising of 21 LNG and four LPG carriers.
