Siemens Gamesa and Doosan Enerbility, formerly Doosan Heavy Industries, have signed a framework agreement to work together to address the South Korean offshore wind market
Siemens Gamesa chief executive offshore wind Marc Becker and Doosan Enerbility power service business group chief executive Hongook Park signed the partnership framework agreement in Hamburg, Germany.
The agreement follows successful exploration of potential co-operation made possible by a memorandum of understanding signed in June 2022. This next step lays the foundation for a high level of local content offerings in the South Korean offshore wind market. Implementation is subject to successful offshore wind power orders for South Korean offshore windfarms.
Under the agreement, Doosan will assemble nacelles for Siemens Gamesa’s offshore wind turbines at a Doosan facility that is currently in the design phase. It will also undertake turbine assembly for Siemens Gamesa turbines at staging harbours, construct projects using the OEM’s turbines and undertake offshore service on the turbines, once installed.
Mr Becker said, “We are eager to bring our market-leading offshore skills, including our direct drive nacelle technology, to South Korea. We will also greatly benefit from Doosan’s understanding of the South Korean market, which will help accelerate the country’s energy transition. The partnership intends to promote local job growth and inward investment while delivering clean, green energy.”
Mr Park said, “Both companies have our own offshore wind turbine models and solid track record. Co-operating in the South Korean offshore wind market will enable us to actively develop a domestic offshore wind ecosystem.”
Doosan Enerbility started its wind power business in 2005 and leads the South Korean domestic offshore wind energy market with projects such as the 60-MW Southwest Offshore Wind Power Phase 1 development.
