The Danish Energy Agency has prequalified six consortia to participate in the tender for the country’s next offshore windfarm, the 800-1,000-MW Thor project. The windfarm is to be built in the North Sea off the coast at Thorsminde
The agency said it received six applications from a range of consortia and companies wishing to bid to develop the windfarm. All six met the criteria for financial and technical capability and have therefore successfully prequalified.
Danish Energy Agency deputy director Janni Torp Kjærgaard said, “A strong set of players applied to prequalify to bid to build Thor. This confirms that Denmark remains an attractive country when it comes to investments in offshore wind.”
The bidders include: SSE Renewables Offshore Windfarm Holdings Limited and Thor OFW K/S (owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure IV Thor OFW and Andel Holding); Swan Wind P/S (ultimately owned by Eneco Wind and European Energy); Thor Wind Farm (owned by RWE Wind Holding and RWE Offshore Wind); Total Renewables and Iberdrola Renovables Internacional; Vattenfall Vindkraft; and Ørsted Wind Power.
The agency will complete the tender during 2021. A decision on the winning tender is due to be announced at the end of 2021.
Thor will be Denmark’s largest offshore windfarm and is the first of the three offshore windfarms agreed under the Danish Energy Agreement of 2018.
Connection of the first turbine to the grid is expected to take place in 2025. Thor must be fully operational and connected to the grid by the end of 2027.
