UK-based geotechnical survey company Ternan Energy and US-based Geosyntec Consultants have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate in the offshore wind sector
Ternan Energy specialises in marine geophysics, geotechnical and foundation engineering. Geosyntec is a consulting and engineering firm that works with private and public sector clients on environmental and infrastructure projects.
Together, the companies will provide marine geoscience and engineering advisory services in the US, targeting the fast-growing offshore renewables market.
In a statement, the companies said collaboration between Ternan and Geosyntec will provide clients with direct access to a geotechnical engineering team on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the US.
The companies will use their experience in offshore geotechnics to provide a range of services. These include planning, procuring, and supervising integrated geophysical and geotechnical site investigation programmes; characterisation of foundation zones; assessment and analysis of geohazards; and analysis and design of foundations.
Ternan Energy managing director Mark Finch said, “Collaborating with experienced and like-minded partners ensures our clients will benefit from an unrivalled range of specialist expertise in marine geoscience and engineering.
“We have known the Geosyntec team for a number of years and it is clear we share common values and a mutual respect for the high-quality advisory support that both companies are passionate about. With the recent incorporation of Ternan Energy Inc we are uniquely positioned to continue our support of the energy transition in the US.”
Geosyntec senior principal Rodolfo Sancio said, “The US is planning to rapidly expand its offshore wind energy output and aggressively transition power generation to renewable sources. This process will require geotechnical analyses and designs that lead to safer, more efficient, and more economical solutions.
“Collaboration with Ternan will allow us to meet this challenge as we combine Geosyntec’s multi-disciplinary capabilities, offshore experience, and geographic presence with Ternan’s experience servicing the offshore wind industry in Europe.”
