North Star, one of Europe’s leading owners of service operation vessels, has appointed Gitte Gard Talmo as its new chief executive officer
She takes over from Matthew Gordon, who, after four years spearheading the firm’s expansion from the conventional energy sector into renewables, has stepped down to pursue new opportunities.
Ms Talmo joins from publicly-listed Eidesvik Offshore, where she served as chief executive for nearly three years. Her 22-year career at the Norwegian shipping company saw her take on progressively more senior roles, gaining extensive experience along the way. On taking up the role, Ms Talmo will be based in Aberdeen.
North Star has bases in Aberdeen, Lowestoft, Newcastle, and Hamburg, and employs a workforce of 1,400 seafarers and onshore personnel.
North Star advisory board chairman Tom Blades said, “We are thrilled to have Gitte on board as CEO from December to lead the company’s next phase of development.
“Her maritime experience, strategic vision and passion for innovation makes her the ideal candidate as we continue our journey to becoming a leading marine energy infrastructure service provider in Europe.
“On behalf of the entire advisory board I would also like to express our thanks and gratitude to Matthew Gordon who has led North Star’s transition from the UK’s leading oil and gas focused emergency response and rescue vessel provider to a leading player in the offshore wind service industry. We wish him all the best and continued success in his next endeavours.”
