OHC set to develop new vessel management system

OHC Shipmanagement has initiated a project to reassess and improve its internal operational systems, with the company pointing to safety, regulatory compliance, and vessel performance as areas of particular focus.

Speaking about the rationale behind the initiative, OHC managing director Michael Nutt stated, “This partnership represents an important step in the development of OHC Shipmanagement.

Our focus has always been on transparency, excellence, and the well-being of our crew, and this collaboration is another step in our journey towards greater operational integrity and innovation.”

He said the project would enable OHC to scrutinise its own internal processes and demonstrate its practices to third parties. “We have worked extremely hard over the years to implement our systems and processes,” Mr Nutt explained.

“We know what we do and why we do it, but now we want to be able to clearly show that to third parties — whether that’s a client or an inspector — in a concise and coherent manner.”

OHC has confirmed the project will be applied across the fleet it manages, including its tanker and dry cargo vessels. While the full scope has not been publicly disclosed, the emphasis is on structured analysis and evidence-based documentation.

Mr Nutt said the system was also intended to benefit seafarers, describing it as “another tool for our crew to use onboard, helping them better understand what is expected of them and why.”

He added, “The seafarers are the frontline of what we do. If the system works for them, it works for us.”

To assist in developing the system, OHC is working with maritime software consultancy WiseStella.
