Oldendorff Carriers has contracted UK-based Datum Electronics to supply Datum Shaft Power Meter Systems for its owned fleet.
Designed for commercial vessels with single or multiple shaft installations, Datum’s torsion meters provide ongoing power monitoring data on board vessels that can be used for fuel economy and equipment maintenance scheduling programmes. They give real-time measurements of torque, power, thrust and dynamic torque.
Lübeck, Germany-based Oldendorff is implementing both fleet- and vessel-level performance monitoring systems with the goal of reducing its carbon footprint while boosting technical and operational efficiency.
Explaining the decision to go with Datum Electronics, Oldendorff Carriers junior projects manager Felix Lemke said “For us, the big advantage of the Datum torque meter is its modular design. As the rotor belt’s size is adjustable, it can fit on any size of shaft, which gives the system great flexibility.”
Datum will also install the ship torsion meter systems on all vessels in Oldendorff Carriers’ owned fleet, which currently stands around 176.
