France-based Opsealog won the Offshore Support Journal Innovation of the Year Award for its vessel monitoring and performance management service
Opsealog, which manages over 400 vessels worldwide, reduced greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in OSV operations by 10% in 2019. The award was sponsored by Bureau Veritas. Bureau Veritas global marketing leader, OSVs and tugs Eva Peño presented the award to Opsealog’s chief executive and co-founder Arnaud Dianoux.
Mr Dianoux said his company was pioneering “efficiency as a service” adding that this included “data integration, performance management and consulting services to generate tangible savings for oil and gas operators”.
In January, Mr Dianoux told OSJ “The successful results we attained in 2019 are equivalent to 10 days of carbon-neutral activities per vessel per year. When projected to a global fleet of a major E&P company that number could reach over a 1,000."
"This exceptional performance was possible only due to the implementation on a global scale of Marinelog, our performance management service as well as our clients’ commitment,” he said.
Opsealog said its services enable oil and gas operators to boost marine offshore operational efficiency by improving operational practices in four use cases: fuel efficiency, fleet utilisation, environmental impact and cost control.
Most CO2 and GHG emissions from OSV operations are generated by diesel engines. Because OSVs have different operational profiles and different engine configurations, accurately measuring their environmental impact can be tricky.
Opsealog said its cloud-based platform Marinelog addresses this issue by allowing operators to take advantage of the data already available and by helping marine logistics departments improve their decision making.
Marinelog collects and integrates data from multiple sources such as fuel monitoring systems and weather and vessel tracking. Opsealog then analyses the data and provides recommendations. Through regular efficiency meetings, Opsealog’s account managers provide recommendations to E&P clients on how to improve vessel operational performance.
The improvement of the vessels’ operational behaviour is measured by algorithms and translated into key performance indicators available in a web application and periodic reports.
An environmental feature in Marinelog allows affiliates and oil and gas companies to better report their environmental results both internally and externally. Opsealog’s performance management and analysis enables operators to measure and reduce the atmospheric impacts of specific activities and assess improvements between different periods.
Marinelog does not require any hardware to be installed on board vessels. Because Opsealog is a data integrator platform, it is remotely connected with other compatible vessel tracking or electronic fuel monitoring systems, such as Royston Diesel Power’s enginei and Nautical Control Solutions’ FuelTrax.
As a means of continuous improvement, key performance indicator trends are reviewed during regular efficiency meetings between Opsealog consultants and customers. All data from the system is accessible online in bespoke dashboards.
The other two companies nominated for the award were OneStep Power Solutions and Scantrol.
