On 22 September 2020, Ørsted held a ground-breaking ceremony for the operations and maintenance (O&M) base for the 900-MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2 offshore windfarm
Due to be operational from 2022 onwards, the O&M base is the first of its kind that Ørsted has built in Taiwan.
Ørsted has signed contracts with MOH Associates, a local firm that is part of MAA Group, and Tung Kai Technology Engineering, for the design and construction of the base.
Ørsted Asia-Pacific president Matthias Bausenwein said, ”The O&M base demonstrates that Ørsted is making a long-term commitment to Taiwan, building offshore windfarms and ramping up local O&M competence to meet the needs of the project and create an offshore wind value chain in Taiwan.”
Ørsted general manager Taiwan Christy Wang said, “Making this investment in building our own O&M base in Taiwan is an excellent example of how we go beyond Taiwan’s localisation requirements.
“This is underlined by the fact we partnered with local companies for the design and construction of the O&M base.
“The base will stimulate growth in related O&M businesses and create local direct and indirect jobs with our contractors and suppliers.”
