Østensjø Rederi orders ocean energy support vessel 

The vessel will be equipped for a wide range of operations in the offshore energy sector, including construction, inspection, maintenance and repair, walk-to-work, flotel services, and cable laying. Its versatile design will ensure it can operate across multiple segments.

Østensjø Rederi chief executive Kristian Helland Vea said, “We are excited to start on this shipbuilding journey with a new vessel type. 

“The order aligns with our ongoing effort to modernise our fleet, our commitment to new technology, and our dedication to decarbonisation.”

The vessel is due to be delivered by the Spanish yard in the second half of 2027 and will have a hybrid propulsion system with batteries and other energy-saving equipment, such as a heat recovery system, to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The owner said the design, developed by Salt Ship Design in Norway, “is also prepared for the use of other low carbon technology.”

The vessel will be 120 m long with a beam of 23 m and can accommodate 180 people in high-standard cabins with daylight.

“In a rapidly changing industry, the main design objective was to create a versatile vessel that can serve across segments,” said Mr Vea. “We cannot predict the future, but are confident this vessel will meet current and future market needs and remain relevant for years to come.”
