French wind propulsion system manufacturer AYRO has signed a contract with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Caen in Normandy
The contract will see a production facility to manufacture AYRO’s Oceanwings wind propulsion system located at the Port of Caen-Ouistreham, in the middle of the port area with direct access to the sea.
AYRO chief executive Ludovic Gérard said, “We are very proud to get this great opportunity to set up our wingsail production factory in Normandy, and to mark a major milestone in our Oceanwings industrialisation. Benefiting from a dynamic ecosystem and open to the sea, this location will be ideal to serve our clients.”
“With the establishment of the AYRO factory, Caen-Ouistreham cargo port will participate actively in the economic sector development dedicated to shipping. Innovation, technology, trading and shipping will be at the heart of the project to respond to environmental challenges,” added CCI Caen Normandie’s president Michel Collin.
The production of the four Oceanwings 363 for the Canopée project will begin this December with delivery expected at the end of 2022.
Canopée is a 121-m roro vessel, designed by naval architect VPLP design and set to be built at the Neptune Marine shipyard for French shipping company Jifmar Offshore Services. Alizée, a joint-venture between Jifmar and Zephyr & Borée, will charter the ship which will transport components of the Ariane 6 launch rocket from Europe to French Guyana.
