Riviera Maritime Media is delighted to announce the appointment of M Kalyanaraman (Kalyan) as its new technical editor – marine engineering
Kalyan – almost uniquely – brings to the role experience as a seagoing marine engineer on multiple vessel types and a proven track record editing a leading international B2B industry title and news editing two of the world’s largest circulating daily newspapers, where responsibilities included breaking maritime stories.
Commenting on his appointment Kalyan said “I am excited to join Riviera Maritime Media where I can continue on the two voyages I have always loved: shipping and journalism.”
Kalyan’s marine engineering career began in 1995 with the state-owned Shipping Corporation of India. He stayed with the company six years serving on general cargo, oil tankers and passenger vessels. Kalyan also holds the distinction of being one of the first Indian marine engineers to sail on LNG carriers, marking him out as a dual ticket holder – eligible to sail on steam and motor.
In 2003 Kalyan graduated with a Masters degree in journalism from New York’s prestigious Columbia University. His subsequent experience has included eight years as editor of Turbomachinery International before returning in 2011 to his home town to take up senior editorial positions on The Times of India and The Hindu.
“We are delighted to announce Kalyan’s appointment,” said Riviera’s head of content Edwin Lampert. “Kalyan’s depth and breadth of experience means we can add depth and breadth to our technical content and coverage in print, online and to our growing portfolio of events. Those familiar with the maritime press will know that finding a seasoned maritime engineer and proven editor of Kalyan’s calibre is a rarity. We are delighted to welcome Kalyan on board.
“Industry at large can look forward to reading Kalyan’s content across our newly launched website from August and meeting Kalyan in person at Riviera’s October Asian Sulphur Cap 2020 Conference in Singapore.”
