RWE Renewables Japan and Kyuden Mirai Energy Company are to undertake a feasibility study for a bottom-fixed offshore wind project in Japan
The companies, which recently signed a co-operation agreement to study opportunities for fixed-bottom offshore wind projects in the country, are hoping to build a project off the coast of Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture.
The companies said they will also proceed with preparations for a tender to be organised by the Japanese Government and will file an environmental impact assessment for the project.
RWE and Kyuden Mirai said they would work together, utilising their respective know-how and strengths, to contribute to the expansion of offshore wind in Japan and overseas.
Sumitomo Corporation, INPEX Corporation, Japan Petroleum Exploration, JR-EAST Energy Development, Kato Construction, Narita Construction, TEPCO Renewable Power and Venti Japan have also formed a consortium to bid in response to the upcoming Japanese tender; as have Chubu and Mitsubishi Corporation, which recently acquired Dutch utility Eneco.
Riviera will host a week of free to attend 45-minute webinars focused on offshore wind commencing 8 June. Register your interest now
