Scorpio Shipmanagement is upgrading communications systems across its fleet to enable digitalisation and vessel optimisation
Marlink will install hybrid network solutions on its tankers, with around 150 vessels given upgraded communications with hybrid VSAT, satellite back-up and 4G communications. The additional bandwidth will enable extra data transmission, more crew communications, advanced digital applications and improved compliance reporting.
Scorpio Shipmanagement group procurement manager Paolo Magonio said these upgraded communications systems will satisfy current and future requirements from charterers and regulators, while also providing cost-efficient crew communications. “Marlink’s hybrid network solution enables us to gain the benefits of digitalisation by having the connectivity to support our business now,” said Mr Magonio.
“And it gives us room to grow as demands for higher performance and greater efficiency rise, while providing our crew with enhanced capabilities to stay in touch with friends and family.”
Marlink’s smart hybrid network combines Ku-band and Ka-band VSAT with L-band satellite communications and global 4G connectivity where coverage is available.
This is all bundled with security and optimisation tools and equipment upgrades to enable new satellite access.
These upgrades come as Scorpio Shipmanagement looks to future-proof its connectivity to use collaborative cloud-based software and remote access to ship systems.
“We find our customers increasingly looking at new technologies and new applications as standard,” said Marlink president of maritime Tore Morten Olsen. “They want to use the same collaborative tools as we do ashore to communicate, and access documents and data easily,” he explained.
“We make this possible by integrating and delivering complex hybrid connectivity and digital solutions as a managed service to further enable digitalisation in maritime.”
