US-headquartered energy major is improving the emissions credentials of its LNG carrier fleet
Seatrium has successfully delivered lower-carbon upgrades to Asia Endeavour, the final vessel in Chevron’s series of LNG carriers aimed at reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency.
"This project is part of Chevron’s lower carbon LNG fleet improvements, and we’re proud to have played a key role in making it happen. Through a full EPIC scope – engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning – Asia Endeavour is now equipped with a new reliquefaction system, hull air lubrication and an upgraded 4-stage gas compressor," Seatrium said in a LinkedIn post.
The yard has completed work on four of Chevron’s LNG carriers within the last eight months, all under the same programme. LNG carrier Asia Vision was the first turnkey EPIC lower carbon LNG fleet upgrade for Chevron.
Chevron’s initial deal was with Seatrium’s prior incarnation, Sembcorp Marine, and was announced in late February 2023. Seatrium completed the upgrade work by the stated target of mid-2025. Chevron and Seatrium have both indicated the project is aimed at lowering the carbon intensity of Chevron’s inhouse LNG fleet to meet International Maritime Organization’s decarbonisation targets.
Recently, Seatrium’s parent organisation Sembcorp Industries announced another of its subsidiaries had signed a long-term LNG sale-and-purchase agreement with Chevron’s Singapore operations.
