Sembcorp Marine and Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) have signed a collaboration agreement that will enable Sembcorp to target opportunities in the offshore wind industry
Under the agreement, Sembcorp Marine and A*STAR will set up a research lab to known as Joint Lab@TBY that will facilitate the test-bedding and commercialisation of digital design solutions, advanced manufacturing capabilities and ‘Industry 4.0’-related technology they will use to explore novel designs that support the development of offshore wind energy. The project will also address mitigation in liquefied natural gas storage and transportation.
The partners in the Joint Lab@TBY also plan to augment advanced manufacturing capabilities in other areas including large format additive manufacturing technology; automated robotic welding for complex offshore structures; automated non-destructive testing; and smart factory floor monitoring and control.
Sembcorp Marine president and chief executive Wong Weng Sun said the partnership would enrich Sembcorp Marine’s efforts to develop cost-competitive, green engineering solutions.
Recent projects between Sembcorp Marine and A*STAR include developing 3D printing and industrial internet of things.
