Turbine manufacturer Senvion is to supply the turbines for what will be the first offshore windfarm in the Mediterranean
Turbine manufacturer Senvion has confirmed it is to supply the turbines for what will be the first offshore windfarm in the Mediterranean.
The company has been awarded a contract by Renexia for 10 of its 3.0M122 turbines. They will be installed on monopile foundations in a water depth ranging from 3 m to 18 m.
Senvion said it has specially adapted its 3.0M122 wind turbine for the particularly challenging offshore environment and developed a customised installation procedure suitable for the nearshore windfarm.
Installation and commissioning will take place in 2019 and Senvion will provide full maintenance services for five years with an extension option of up to 25 years.
Senvion executive director and CSO David Hady said, “The offshore wind market is diversifying in terms of regions, wind regimes and solutions. This requires from vendors innovative approaches and technologies.
“For this project, Senvion has been able to leverage its experience, and develop an offshore version of its 3.0M122 wind turbine for Renexia. This modular approach is promising for many offshore markets around the globe.”
Renexia managing director Riccardo Toto said, “We are glad to work with Senvion for the first offshore windfarm in the Mediterranean. This project is part of a wider strategy in the wind power industry that Renexia is also pursuing in the US through two important projects and worldwide with many other projects.”
