Shell deploys software to optimise lifecycle of critical offshore assets

Shell is adopting specialist software to manage the structural integrity and performance of major deepwater oil and gas production infrastructure.

Its enterprise, Shell Information Technology International, has reached a agreement with Lausanne, Switzerland-headquartered Akselos to use structural performance management (SPM) software for a range of offshore and onshore facilities.

Akselos said its SPM software will help Shell to optimise the lifecycle of critical assets safely and sustainably by monitoring the structural health of these facilities across Shell’s portfolio in near real time.

This agreement will extend to successful projects with Shell Pearl gas-to-liquids in Qatar, Shell Scotford in Canada, the Bonga floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility in Nigeria and various deployments in the Gulf of Mexico.

Akselos said Shell would leverage Akselos’ simulation technology to enhance asset performance, ensure uninterrupted operations, extend asset life and support the safe operation of assets at maximum output.
