Shipowners accessing UK-based Newport Maritime Services’ online platform for shiprepair services will be able to select an auxiliary wind propulsion systems for retrofit on their ships under a new agreement
Newport Maritime Services (NMS) has inked an exclusive partnership with Helsinki-based Norsepower Oy to offer its rotor sail technology via the booking platform. This will allow shipowners to evaluate the wind power technology while selecting other repair services.
NMS managing director Ege Akcasoy said shipowners should "consider this exciting solution within our broad set of turnkey services to lead decarbonisation efforts in the industry through higher efficiency and improved cost management.”
Norsepower chief executive Tuomas Riski said, “Retrofitting vessels with clean technologies such as wind propulsion is becoming an increasingly attractive option to decarbonise operations in light of the incoming EEXI and CII ratings systems, as well as to demonstrate alignment with ESG principles.”
Added Mr Riski, “To do this, shipowners and operators are having to make critical decisions now about how to adjust their fleets’ operations to meet these goals while ensuring the choices they make are commercially viable in the long term.” Mr Riski said the ability to book through the online platform will allow for better decision-making, and “improve the speed and efficiency of planning the retrofit process.”
NMS co-operates with a network of 14 shipyards with 35 docks, providing shiprepair, retrofit and conversion services for all sizes and types of vessels.
