Turbine OEM Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has received a firm order for the turbines for the Fryslân nearshore windfarm in the Netherlands
Along with Van Oord, the company was selected as the preferred supplier for the turbines for the windfarm earlier this year. The companies are working together on the project in the Zuiderzeewind consortium.
The contract from Windpark Fryslân BV was confirmed following the closing of finance for the project, which is to be built in the Frisian section of the Ijsselmeer Lake, next to the Afsluitdijk dam. The windfarm will have a rated output of in excess of 380 MW.
The firm order encompasses the supply and installation of 89 Siemens Gamesa SWT-DD-130 turbines and a 16-year service agreement. The windfarm will be fully operational in 2021.
Van Oord said preparatory work for the project has already begun. The company started work on soil investigations in late 2018 and in March 2019 ducts were installed at Breezanddijk for the power cables that will connect the turbines to the transformer station.
Construction of the transformer station at Breezanddijk has also started, as has installation of the power cables on the Afsluitdijk.
Rabobank Project Finance, together with nine other as yet unnamed banks, were responsible for successfully closing the finance for the project.
