A consortium of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and Van Oord has been selected by Windpark Fryslân as the preferred contractor for constructing the Fryslân nearshore windfarm in the Netherlands.
The windfarm will have 89 turbines with a capacity of 4.3 MW each in the Frisian section of the IJsselmeer Lake, next to the Afsluitdijk dam. With a rated power output of over 380 MW, it will give a boost to the sustainable supply of energy for the Province of Friesland. Siemens Gamesa will service the windfarm for16 years initially.
Van Oord is responsible for the balance of plant work, including the design, fabrication, and installation of the foundations and cables for the project. Van Oord will also supply the equipment for installing the turbines.
Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy is responsible for designing, fabricating and commissioning the SWT-DD-130 turbines, each with an individual capacity of 4.3 MW and a 130-m rotor diameter, and the onshore substation. The hub height of the turbines will be 109 m with a blade tip height of 174 m.
Nomination as preferred contractor also includes constructing a nature conservation island next to the Afsluitdijk dam using material from the IJsselmeer Lake.
Final contracts for construction are expected to be signed later this year. Construction work will start in 2019 and the windfarm is due to be in full operation by mid-2021.
