Vattenfall’s former head of offshore wind, Michael Simmelsgaard, who unexpectedly left the developer earlier this year, is joining Ramboll on 1 January 2020 to lead Ramboll’s global energy division
Mr Simmelsgaard is replacing Thomas Rand, who has decided to retire after 10 years as managing director, energy and 41 years with the company. Mr Rand will continue has association with Ramboll as a senior advisor.
In his previous role, Mr Simmelsgaard was responsible for Vattenfall’s offshore wind activity, including market development, engineering, design, construction, operations and asset management. He also has broad industry experience of utilities and energy from senior leadership roles at Ørsted, Siemens and Danfoss.
“Offshore wind is the fastest growing energy sector in the world,” Ramboll, which is a business focus in designing foundations for offshore wind turbines, noted in a statement. The company is also involved in the design of offshore substations.
