Skyborn Renewables signs second PPA for power from Gennaker offshore windfarm

Under the latest agreement, energy company Uniper plans to purchase 100 MW of capacity from Gennaker. The contract will commence after the project’s commercial operation date, and will run for an initial term of 10 years, with an option to extend. 

The transaction is Uniper’s first offshore wind PPA, and an important milestone in its strategy to expand its renewables portfolio and support the energy transition in Germany.

As reported by OWJ, earlier this month, Skyborn Renewables also reached two other important milestones for the Gennaker windfarm, agreeing a PPA with Amazon for 600 MW of power, and a deal with Stadtwerke München that sees the latter acquire a 25% equity stake in the offshore wind project.

Skyborn chief executive Patrick Lammers said the second PPA “is an important milestone for Gennaker. It shows how large-scale offshore wind can be delivered reliably and at scale.”

Once built, the Gennaker windfarm will be the largest offshore windfarm in the German sector of the Baltic. It will be built approximately 15 km north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. 

Skyborn has developed Gennaker from the earliest stage, securing a construction permit in December 2025. The project will use 63 15-MW offshore wind turbines.

Construction is expected to begin following financial close by Skyborn in summer 2026, with the windfarm expected to become operational toward the end of 2028.
