Small shoots of recovery in the tanker orderbook are visible at the smaller shipyards, according to BRL Shipping Consultants. It points to the order of an 8,000-dwt product tanker at Haidong, China.
Haidong has built a series of bunkering tankers, small product and chemical tankers, singledeckers and container feeder ships, none larger than 20,000 dwt.
It currently has on order four small tankers, comprising three 1,000-dwt tankers for Akron Trade & Transport of the UAE, and an 8,000-dwt product tanker for the cabotage service under ownership of Shanghai Xianglian Shipping. Akron Trade & Transport is an oil trader, shipmanager and physical bunker supplier and currently has 18 Haidong-built tankers in its fleet.
