Stena Line revealed it will invest €5M (US$5.6M) in its operations on the Trelleborg-Rostock route
The ferry route between Trelleborg, Sweden and Rostock in Germany has seen impressive growth over the last three years. Stena Line estimated 2019 will see more than 400,000 passengers travelling on the route.
The cabins and public spaces on board the two ferries that operate on the route, FS Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and M/S Skåne, will be renovated and refitted.
The refits will begin at the end of December and take place both during the planned yard visits and during operation with completion expected in time for the peak season in 2020.
The refit design is based on the Stena Line Design Book, used for the newbuilds. The aesthetic chosen will focus on a spacious, light and modern Scandinavian design. The renovation will cover all cabins and public areas, corridors and food outlets.
FS Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will see a separation between the shop and café to create a more spacious feeling for passengers. On M/S Skåne, the service concept ’Newsroom’ found on Stena Line’s newbuilds, will be built.
Speaking of the decision, Stena Line trade director for Germany Ron Gerlach said "The investment and renovation of the two vessels is an important part of the journey to ensure a great travel and onboard experience for our guests in the future,” adding ”We are really happy to present a new look on our ferries FS Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and M/S Skåne. The Rostock-Trelleborg route is an important part of Stena Line but also an important link between Sweden and Germany and between the regions Skåne and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This investment shows our continuous commitment and engagement in the region, the route and in both the ports and cities of Rostock and Trelleborg.”
In March, Stena Line added Japanese sleeping pods aboard both vessels. The company said the new amenities contributed to Stena successfully surpassing its booking target this year.
