Dry bulk shipowner SwiftBulk Holding Co is installing fuel monitoring and video cameras on a Kamsarmax ship to optimise operations and reduce expenditure
SwiftBulk has partnered with Nautical Control Solutions to install FuelTrax Electronic Fuel Monitoring System (EFMS) on 82,000-dwt bulker Thestelia K. It will also deploy FuelTrax Vision on the 2009-built ship to provide insights into vessel activities during its voyages and port operations.
SwiftBulk expects FuelTrax EFMS to improve operating efficiency and transparency of fuel consumption to decrease the vessel’s daily expenditure and environmental footprint.
A Coriolis flowmeter will measure fuel flow to a Mitsui MAN B&W 6S-60MC-C main engine on this ship and a sensor will measure fuel quality upon loading bunkers.
With these investments, SwiftBulk will gain access to FuelNet, a secure online portal, which provides live updates of vessel location and vessel activities.
FuelTrax Vision will provide the operator with 360° video coverage of Thestelia K’s perimeter for visual verification of onboard operations.
All video footage is collected by FuelTrax and coupled with existing fuel monitoring data and location tracking information to provide greater transparency in operations.
SwiftBulk chief executive Stefanos Kasselakis said FuelTrax equipment will also provide more information to charterers. “The FuelTrax system allows SwiftBulk to increase operational efficiency and better manage operational costs while reducing our environmental impact,” he said.
“The transparency FuelTrax provides greatly enhances our shipmanagement capabilities, maximising both SwiftBulk’s and our customers’ return on investment,” Mr Kasselakis added.
FuelTrax vice president of operations John Donovan said this was a partnership for enhancing their vessel efficiency. “SwiftBulk’s commitment to technology-driven shipping perfectly matches FuelTrax’s expertise in increasing vessel efficiency and offering solutions to large vessel operators,” said Mr Donovan.
SwiftBulk Holding Co is the bulk shipping operations of Tiptree Marine, a subsidiary of Tiptree Inc.
