Techcross has been contracted to supply a ballast water management system (BWMS) to Europe’s largest heavy-lift vessel
According to a Techcross sales spokesperson, the contract with the unnamed heavy-lift vessel operator has a high chance of winning additional orders as the shipowner has nine more ships of the same type.
The unnamed vessel is capable of carrying around 110,000 tonnes of cargo, and though designed to move oil or gas facilities, it is also used to transport other ships as an offshore drydock facility.
The spokesperson said that considering the vessel is already using equipment from other makers, the decision to partner with Techcross ECS as its choice of equipment for essential processes such as ballasting and deballasting operations is expected to cause a considerable impact on the European market as well as the BWMS industry.
"Because of the nature of the heavy ships, it has to deal with a large volume of ballast water. The operational advantages of the non-filter product has had a significant impact on the contract," said a Techcross salesperson. “We expect this contract to have a positive effect on future business activities, while serving as a good example for shipowners who own large vessels," he continued.
Techcross claim its ECS model is the only non-filter product among major BWMS currently sold in the market.
