One of the world’s top tanker owners is rolling out enterprise resource planning and artificial intelligence platforms across its fleet
Teekay Tankers has signed a contract with software developer JiBe to deploy its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system across its fleet of Suezmax, Aframax and LR2 product tankers.
Teekay will also be among the first clients to deploy JiBe’s UpWind and Yamba.ai artificial intelligence (AI) platforms.
This is expected to bring fleet management within one integrated system to streamline analytics, support and reduce the administrative burden on seafarers and managers.
“One of the key factors in our selection was the significant technological advantages,” said Teekay chief information officer Jamus Spink. “These advantages were evident in two key areas: all clients will operate on a single-version platform, and the advanced AI and big data capabilities will be delivered through the UpWind and Yamba.AI platforms.”
By using advanced AI models, Teekay can predict potential incidents, observations and defects, optimise maintenance schedules and identify if jobs were done properly.
“Transitioning to a modern, single-version cloud platform eliminates the costly, time-consuming customisations that have previously hindered our ability to upgrade and seize innovation opportunities,” said Mr Spink.
“We believe the impact of AI and big data in shipmanagement will be significant. The focus of our selection process was to evaluate which vendor solution would best support Teekay’s focus on safety, people and operational reliability.”
Other shipowners and managers using JiBe software include Eastern Pacific, Seaspan and Anglo Eastern – with more than 2,000 ships running on a single version of its ERP software.
