In a live virtual launch in Leer, Germany, Thun Tankers launched the third tanker in the E-series, Thun Equality
The name Thun Equality signifies the commitment of the technical manager, MF Shipping, the Feris Smit shipyard in Leer, Germany, and the owner Thun Tankers to equality in shipping. Thun Equality is the third product tanker powered by gas in a series of four E-class vessels being built by Scheepswerf Ferus Smit.
Thun Tankers is part of the Erik Thun Group, a company owned by the Källsson family since 1938. For decades it has designed increasingly economic and energy-efficient quality ships, using inhouse knowledge to provide customers with sustainable and cost-efficient transport solutions.
Thun Tankers chief operating officer Joakim Lund said, “Equality describes how we want to approach people and the societies where we operate. Diversity, gender equality and inclusiveness are key in providing a sustainable future for the global maritime industry and our company.”
“The MF Shipping Group strives to increase the percentage of women within the shore-based organisation and on board the vessels. We see it as our mission to attract and support more women and to promote more diversity within the maritime industry. Making a difference starts by stepping up and contributing to a change for a better future for all of us. No matter how big or small, every contribution counts,” added MF Shipping Group chief executive Karin Orsel.
“Equality is a big part of our sustainability work, and it has been and will be a focus ahead. Today’s launch is a great example of our vision to be a sustainable Swedish partner over generations,” said Erik Thun AB managing director Johan Källsson.
