Three people were injured, one of them seriously, on the evening of 23 April 2020 when a crew transfer vessel (CTV) operated by Njord Offshore collided with a wind turbine in the Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore windfarm in Germany
The vessel involved, Njord Forseti, was attended by a lifeboat from the Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (DGzRS) after the collision, which led to water entering the vessel.
Njord Forseti, which was flying the British flag, reported the collision to the emergency services. The 26-m CTV, designed to transport 24 passengers, was located about 24 nautical miles (around 45 km) north of Borkum when the incident occurred.
Vessels in the area also attended the CTV, and a rescue helicopter flew the seriously injured person from the vessel Siem Barracuda (shown here) to University Hospital Groningen in the Netherlands.
Another CTV, Njord Zephyr, also played a role in responding to the incident.
The crew of the damaged vessel managed to keep water ingress under control and the CTV was accompanied by a DGzRS rescue unit, SK 40, to Lauwersoog in the Netherlands.
