Tanker owner Thun Tankers has launched Thun Empower, the company’s newest dual-fuel, gas-powered tanker
Thun Empower is the fourth and final product tanker in the company’s series of E-class vessels being built by Dutch shipbuilder Scheepswerf Ferus Smit. The E-class vessels are a further development of Erik Thun Group’s existing fleet and focus on efficiency, environmental care and customers’ needs.
The vessels are built to the latest design to meet existing and forthcoming regulations. The E-class ships improve manoeuvrability with a nozzle-fitted propeller and less bow flare to reduce resistance and speed loss in heavy seas.
Three of the four gas-powered product tankers – Thun Eos, Thun Evolve and Thun Equality – have been delivered so far.
Erik Thun group managing director Johan Källson said “The E-class series is an example of our vision to be a sustainable Swedish partner over generations.”
Ship manager MF Shipping will serve as the technical manager of the ship and chief executive Karin Orsel said the company worked with Erik Thun closely to design the IMO type II design tanker.
Thun Empower will operate for Thun Tankers within the Gothia Tanker Alliance. The Gothia Tanker Alliance consists of seven partners: Thun Tankers, OHM, Uni Tankers, Rederi AB Älvtank, DSD Shipping, Furetank and Wisby Tankers.
