DEME Offshore and Siemens Gamesa have installed all 94 turbines at the Borssele 1 & 2 offshore windfarm in the Netherlands
The first turbine was installed in April 2020 and, less than five months later, the turbine installation phase has been completed.
DEME Offshore’s installation vessels Sea Installer and Sea Challenger were used to undertake the project.
The project also marked the first time Siemens Gamesa’s 8-MW offshore wind turbines have been installed on a commercial project. The SG 8.0-167 DD turbines have a tip height of 200 m and a rotor diameter of 167 m.
Ørsted EPC director Borssele 1 & 2 Henrik Egholm said, “Construction of the windfarm went really well. We have completed installation of the foundations, cables and turbines, in only nine months. We were able to construct the whole 752-MW windfarm during a pandemic without anyone being infected, which all can be very proud of.”
DEME Offshore business unit director Michael Glavind said, “The project demonstrated the benefits of our two-vessel turbine installation solution.
“Having two similar vessels deployed on a project brings many benefits to our clients in terms of preparation, planning and accelerated execution.”
