Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has awarded a contract to transport and install the 8-MW wind turbines for the 640-MW Yunlin offshore windfarm in Taiwan.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier is to mobilise one of its purpose-built jack-up installation vessels in early 2020 to undertake the project.
Fred Olsen commercial manager Martin Degen said, “This is an exciting project for us as it is our first contract of this type in Asia.”
The installation vessel owner said it plans to engage with local stakeholders regarding their involvement in the project. This may include ship agencies, port authorities, steel fabricators, engineering consultancies and R&D and education centres.
The Yunlin windfarm is located approximately 6 km off the southwest coast of Taiwan and will use Siemens Gamesa’s SG 8.0-167 DD turbines.
Installation will be split into two phases, which will be carried out in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
