Güngen is deploying Kongsberg Digital’s Vessel Insight on its fleet of six high-specification Suezmax crude tankers as part of its digitalisation strategy
Güngen chief operating officer Selim Güngen expects Vessel Insight to speed up the delvery of data from these tankers for faster operational decisions. “The multitude of sensors on board our ships produce a massive amount of valuable data,” he said.
“So far, despite enjoying the best satellite communication contracts which the market has to offer, we have only really been able to access this data by logging into our ships,” Mr Güngen continued. “This relatively slow and inefficient process has obstructed our predictive maintenance and data analysis endeavours.”
In February, Güngen contracted Marlink, through its local partner Ozsay Satellite, to provide satellite communications for the Suezmax tankers via Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress service, using Ka-band through the Global Xpress network and L-band from FleetBroadband.
This has enhanced crew welfare and operational communications, but did not speed up data delivery and analysis for the tanker owner.
Güngen reached out to tanker automation systems supplier Kongsberg, “to find a solution which will deliver an effortless data stream, accessible from anywhere and at any time from a user-friendly interface,” said Mr Güngen. “We very much look forward to setting yet another milestone in our digitalisation process.”
Güngen’s immediate goal for installing Vessel Insight is to benchmark its tankers to provide a foundation for increased fuel savings and reduced emissions. The strategic purpose is to standardise the digitalisation process and collect all data from its ships and onboard assets.
Inputs can then be analysed, and the system easily connected to software applications in the Kognifai Marketplace.
Kongsberg Digital executive vice president Andreas Jagtøyen said Güngen will “unlock the full potential that lies in digitalisation and the software available on the market.”
He added, “Güngen’s ambition is to digitalise its fleet to the highest level. It is a forerunner in standardising the digitalisation process on vessels.”
Vessel Insight is a data-infrastructure solution that enables shipowners and operators to begin their digitalisation process. It collects and contextualises data from vessels, allowing applications to use the necessary data to solve a predefined set of key performance indicators.
There is a network of third-party software applications available in the Kognifai Marketplace to optimise operations.
Connectivity and data analytic applications will be discussed during Riviera Maritime Media’s next Vessel Optimisation Webinar Week, 9-12 August - use this link to access more details and to register for these webinars
