Emsys Maritime, which produces laser-guided emissions monitoring systems for use in ship funnels, recognised with Queen’s Award for Enterprise
The award for international trade comes in recognition of the company’s growth and its international client base, exporting more than 94% of its products abroad.
Emsys Maritime makes environmental monitoring systems that are used on cruise liners and large oceangoing ships to help reduce air pollution. The systems incorporate patented laser technology designed by the company’s founder and managing director, Simon Brown. The Emsys technology is installed in ship funnels to measure pollution from engines ensuring compliance with maritime environmental regulations.
Among the company’s international clients are P&O Cruises, Cunard Line and Disney Cruise Line as well as Samsung and Hyundai Shipbuilding Corporations in South Korea.
Mr Brown said he was "absolutely thrilled" and gave credit to his staff for seeing out a difficult period during the pandemic.
"Our team are amazing, they have to be as we compete with many of the world’s largest companies in a highly competitive market. Like all companies, the past 12 months have been a tough struggle, however the resilience and enthusiasm shown by my incredible colleagues has been duly rewarded by this exceptional acknowledgement of their efforts," he said.
