Shipbuilding Asia (SBA) has been awarded a contract for two aluminium crew transfer vessels for the European offshore wind industry
The contract includes an option for two more vessels and was awarded by Mainprize Offshore Ltd.
With an overall length of 26 m, the new units are designed by Walker Marine Design and will be used to support European offshore windfarm operations.
The newbuilds will be similar to the most recent additions to the Mainprize Offshore fleet but will have a number of improvements to increase transit speed and transfer capability. They will also have controllable pitch propeller propulsion. The propellers will be driven by two Caterpillar C32 main engines.
At 25.74 m in length with a waterline length of 23.92 m and beam of 11.20 m, the new vessels will be able to carry 40 tonnes of deck cargo and have capacity for 45,000 litres of fuel and 19,000 litres of fresh water.
