Marquette Transportation Co is expanding its fleet of towboats with a series of four Z-drive tugs. It took delivery of the second of these 49 m tugs, Chris Reeves, from shipbuilders C&C Marine and Repair.
This Louisiana-based shipyard delivered the first of these tugs, Cindy L. Erickson, in February this year. It is scheduled to deliver the third in the series in August and the fourth, which is an optional extra, in December this year.
All of these vessels are triple-screw Z-drive tugs with 4,920 kW of power. They were designed by CT Marine with breadth of 15 m. For each tug, Cummins is supplying three QSK60-M main engines paired to three Steerprop SP25D azimuthing Z-drive thrusters.
C&C Marine and Repair previously built three similar triple Z-drive towboats for SCF Marine in 2017.
Marquette expanded its fleet of towboats in 2016 when it took delivery of Z-drive vessel St. Simon from Alabama-based shipyard Master Marine.
