The US Coast Guard has made significant amendments to the Ballast Water Management Reporting Form including data collection on vessels’ most recent dry dock dates and removal of the alternative ballast water management clause
The USCG has issued a notice that it has received approval from the White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to adopt revisions to the Ballast Water Management Reporting Form (OMB number 1625-0069).
The amended Ballast Water Management Reporting Form replaces all previous and expired versions and contains two important changes from the previous version:
Vessel owners and operators should note that the National Ballast Information Clearinghouse (NBIC) will no longer accept expired versions of the BWM Reporting Form. To fully comply with all Coast Guard Ballast Water reporting requirements, all vessels must use the new Ballast Water Management Reporting Form, as expired versions lack required information, USCG said.
The Ballast Water Management Reporting Form can be requested by US port authorities from any non-recreational vessels, US and foreign, that are equipped with ballast tanks and operate within the waters of the United States.
The master, owner, operator, agent, or person in charge of a vessel must submit a ballast water report to the National Ballast Information Clearinghouse (NBIC) by electronic ballast water report format using methods specified at NBIC’s website.
The new Ballast Water Management Reporting Form (OMB number 1625-0069, expiration date 31 July 2023) can be accessed through the NBIC website.
The USCG has advised that report-related questions should be directed to the NBIC at email@example.com and ballast water management programme questions shoul be directed to the USCG Environmental Standards Division at firstname.lastname@example.org.
