Van Weelde Shipping Group partners with Ahti Pool for FuelEU Maritime compliance, enhancing sustainability while cutting operational costs
Rotterdam-based Van Weelde Shipping Group, a longstanding entity in the Handysize dry bulk sector, has entered into a Letter of Intent to join Ahti Pool, a FuelEU Maritime compliance initiative.
Van Weelde’s decision to join the pool is a path to effective regulatory compliance without compromising competitiveness. According to Van Weelde Shipping Group technical director Raoul de Troije, joining Ahti Pool allows the group to efficiently meet the demands of FuelEU Maritime while minimising administrative overheads.
He noted, although the Ahti Pool simplifies compliance, Van Weelde continues to prioritise sustainability and operational efficiency across its fleet.
Ahti Pool, established by Ahti Climate, offers a co-operative model where shipowners can collectively manage compliance through pooled resources, benefiting from economies of scale. The arrangement allows vessels in the pool to share compliance responsibilities, thus lowering costs across varied trading routes.
Ahti Climate chief executive Risto Kariranta expressed enthusiasm over Van Weelde’s involvement, highlighting the solution’s flexibility and cost-saving potential for all participating vessels.
He noted Ahti Climate’s approach remains neutral on compliance options, allowing shipowners to adapt as regulatory demands evolve.
Founded in 1964, Van Weelde Shipping Group manages its dry bulk fleet primarily through its subsidiaries, OSR Rotterdam BV and Van Weelde Chartering BV.
