Vattenfall enhances offshore O&M capacity with long-term frame agreement

The contract will provide guaranteed availability of the vessel for several months each year, primarily during the peak maintenance season from early March to late October.

With an option to extend beyond the initial term, Vattenfall described the deal as “a substantial step forward in our operational efficiency.”

Wind turbines have rotating components and inevitably experience wear and tear over time, necessitating scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. The increased availability of MPI Resolution will enhance the availability of Vattenfall’s offshore turbines and ultimately increase fossil-free electricity generation from existing assets.

MPI Resolution will be tasked with servicing Vattenfall turbines of up to 5 MW in size across northern Europe and the UK.

Vattenfall head of offshore generation Pavlo Malyshenko said the agreement “ensures the availability of MPI Resolution.” He said this will lead to a significant improvement in the company’s operations and maintenance (O&M) activity, “particularly when it comes to main component replacements.”

Van Oord managing director offshore energy Arnoud Kuis said the long-term frame agreement for heavy maintenance succeeds an earlier, four-year agreement and ensures continuous utilisation of MPI Resolution in the growing O&M market.
