The Vietnam Register has submitted information to IMO’s MEPC 76 meeting that it has given type-approval to a filtration and UV ballast water management system (BWMS) made in Vietnam
The Vietnam Register has given type-approval to the BWMS from Thao Linh Development Maritime Technology Co (TLDMT).
This is accordance with the 2008 Guidelines for approval of ballast water management systems (G8), in compliance with regulation D-3.1 of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004.
The TLDMT BWMS model, known as TLC-BWM, uses filtration and UV disinfection at uptake and UV disinfection at discharge of the ballast water. Treatment capacity is listed as between 50 to 500 m3 / hour. The ballast water management system does not use active substances.
Shipboard tests were undertaken by the Laboratory of the Institute of Marine Environment and Resources from December 2016 to July 2017 and land-based tests were conducted from May to August 2020.
Type-approval was granted on 10 September 2020 and is valid for five years.
