Wan Hai orders slew of methanol dual-fuel box ships

The contract – the largest in CSBC’s history – contains options for another four ships. The 12 firm ship orders are slated for delivery between 2027 and 2030.

Wan Hai also ordered four 8,700-TEU methanol dual-fuel ships at South Korean shipyard HD Hyundai Samho.

At the start of August this year, Wan Hai Lines held ship naming ceremonies for WAN HAI 375 and WAN HAI 377 at Japan Marine United Corp’s TSU shipyard.

Wan Hai Lines has ordered a third batch of 3,055-TEU vessels from Japan Marine United Corp. This batch totals 12 vessels, and WAN HAI 375 and WAN HAI 377 are the last two vessels in this series.

This series is equipped with new energy-saving equipment, and is certified with the Smart Ship notation. 

Wan Hai said in a statement, "These new smart vessels are part of Wan Hai’s efforts to pursue fleet upgrading and enhance our commitment to quality and eco-friendly shipping services."

Wan Hai is at number 11 in Alphaliner’s top 100 container shipping lines. It has a fleet capacity of 514,173 TEU, spread over 123 ships and 66,052 TEU (eight ships) on its orderbook.
