One of the most anticipated papers at next year’s Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference, Awards & Exhibition in London will be delivered by Boston Consulting Group’s (BCG) Martha Vasquez.
Ms Vasquez is one of the authors of the Preparing for the Next Wave of Offshore Decommissioning report published earlier this year. The North Sea and Gulf of Mexico have been, and still are, the major centres of decommissioning work. But as oilfields in these regions reach the end of their commercial life, new markets are emerging.
West Africa, southeast Asia, Latin America and the Middle East Gulf all have significant numbers of ageing offshore oil wells that are likely to be uneconomical by 2038. The BCG report highlights 3,700 offshore structures and 17,000 wells that will need to be decommissioned over the next 20 years.
