ABB’s turbochargers are employed in some of the most prestigious and technically advanced commercial vessels afloat.
The Christoph de Margerie is the world’s most powerful LNG tanker and the first ice class tanker. This vessel has ABB TPL-C turbochargers on board.
The vessel has TPL-71C and TPL-76C turbochargers installed. These offer considerable fuel saving and low emissions capabilities, low lifecycle costs and long times between overhauls. In addition, the units feature improved turbine washing, which makes it easier to handle extreme conditions (such as heat with particles in the fuel melting and depositing on turbocharger components.
This is ABB Turbo most successful turbocharger ever produced (in terms of number in operation and the continuous improvements made to adapt to operating requirements), for use in power and also marine applications. It is well suited to a wide range of ambient temperatures which is necessary for ice breaking capabilities
Meanwhile, the Finnish state-owned icebreaker, Polaris was launched in January 2016. She is the most powerful icebreaker in the world and the first to feature environmentally friendly dual-fuel engines capable of using low sulphur marine diesel oil and LNG. Polaris’ engines are equipped with A100-M highly advanced turbochargers.
The A100-M series of turbochargers is the latest generation of most advanced four-stroke, medium-speed turbochargers. Supporting dual fuel operations, they enable flexibility, enhancing operations while maintaining the ABB commitment to lowering fuel consumption and emissions.
