Close to shale gas plays in Louisiana and Texas, the Sabine Pass LNG export terminal site can readily accommodate up to six liquefaction trains capable of processing over 3.5 Bcf/d of natural gas. The production capacity of each LNG train is designed for approximately 4.5 mta. When all six trains are completed, the aggregate nominal production capacity of the terminal is expected to be approximately 27 mta of LNG.
For the first five LNG trains, 19.75 of the 22.5 mta nominal production capacity (approximately 88%) has been contracted to third party, foundation customers on a long-term free on board basis under SPAs. Foundation customers include BG Group, Gas Natural Fenosa, Kogas, Gail, Total and Centrica. Any excess capacity not sold under long-term SPAs to foundation customers is available for Cheniere Marketing for resale.
In February 2016, Cheniere became the first company to ship LNG from a commercial facility in the United States. Since startup, more than 500 cumulative cargoes of LNG have been dispatched from Cheniere. By 2020, it is expected that the company will be a top five global producer of LNG.
