MAN Energy Solutions vice president marine sales Les Gingell, speaking at Riviera’s Maritime Air Pollution Conference, Americas, says we are now at the point where only incremental improvements can be made to the efficiency of internal combusion engines, and MAN is now looking at using after treatments and heat to improve engine efficiency. It also plans to have an ammonia-fuelled engine on the testbed by 2022 and operating in the field by the mid-2020s.
