Douglas Lang


Group Managing Director (Offshore) of the Anglo-Eastern Group which offers vessel, crewing and technical consultancy management services.

Douglas is a naval architect and spent the first ten years of his career with DNV in Oslo specialising in the research and development of floating offshore structures, production vessels and heavy-lift carriers.

He also holds an MBA from the University of Strathclyde Business School.

In 1990 Douglas joined Denholm Ship Management where he held several senior management posts. After the merger between Anglo-Eastern and Denholm in 2001 he took overall responsibility for Anglo-Eastern (UK) Ltd until recently when he was promoted into the newly created Group offshore role.

Douglas has published papers on a wide range of ship management and crew management topics. He is a regular lecturer at the Galbraith’s Shipping Course and is a member of the BIMCO Marine Committee, Intertanko Technical Committee, along with the UK technical committees of DNVGL, LR and NKK.

Gijsbert de Jong


Gijsbert de Jong is Marine Marketing and Sales Director and an Executive Committee member of the Marine and Offshore Division with the Paris headquartered classification society Bureau Veritas.

His main responsibilities are to define the division’s business development strategy and priorities in the maritime market, to drive maritime business intelligence activities and to lead the marine marketing and sales network. In this role Gijsbert heads the central marine commercial department comprising the global market and technology leaders and the marketing management team.

Gijsbert joined Bureau Veritas in 2001 after obtaining an MSc degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, and has since held various operational and business development management positions in Rotterdam, Paris and Shanghai.

Having a strong focus on technology innovation, sustainability and cross-industry cooperation, Gijsbert is continuously striving to develop best in class standards and advisory services to enhance the company’s offering to the maritime market. He is a regular speaker, moderator and chairman at maritime conferences and frequently contributes to industry articles. Gijsbert has published technical papers on container ships, bulk carriers, offshore service vessels, tugs, dredgers, ice classed vessels and low emission marine power systems.

Carl Annessa


Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Carl G. Annessa has served as our Chief Operating Officer since February 2002. Mr. Annessa was appointed Executive Vice President in February 2005. Prior to that time, Mr. Annessa served as our Vice President of Operations beginning in September 1997. Mr. Annessa is responsible for executive oversight of our fleet operations and for oversight of design and implementation of our vessel construction programs. Prior to joining us, he was employed for 17 years by Tidewater Inc. (NYSE:TDW) in various technical and operational management positions, including management of large fleets of offshore supply vessels in the Arabian Gulf, Caribbean and West African markets, and was responsible for the design of several of Tidewater’s vessels. Mr. Annessa was employed for two years by Avondale Shipyards, Inc. as a naval architect before joining Tidewater. Mr. Annessa received a degree in naval architecture and marine engineering from the University of Michigan in 1979.

IMCA - Technical Director for the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA).
Has overall responsibility for the technical staff and is the general manager and quality manager of the Association

Liaising with third party organisations (regulators, trade and technical associations, professional bodies, clients and others) to represent the Association and its members.
Monitor regulatory and technical developments which may affect IMCA members.
Budget and financial input to Chief Executive.
Managing the work output efficiency from the technical advisers.

Charles Taylor Consulting - Carried out routine condition surveys on various types of ships, reviewing external surveyors reports, writing and contributing to technical bulletins concerning marine and environmental safety and loss prevention.

Worked as a Consultant Marine Engineer for Braemar Engineering, Essex, specialising in the LNG shipping sector and worked on various LNG carrier projects for Qatargas. Attended several factory acceptance tests for various items of marine equipment including rescue boats, LNG pumps, marine propulsion gearboxes, LNG reliquefaction systems and dual fuel marine engines. Completed various in-depth studies for various clients concerning dual fuel engine retro-fitting, exhaust gas emissions, LNG ship propulsion design, failure mode effect analysis reports and trials.

Worked as a superintendent engineer with a shipping company, responsible for the complete organisation and completion of ship dry dockings including keeping to strict budgetary requirements. Carried out general ships maintenance, repairs and the general running of the fleet.

Over 25 years of sea going experience as a marine engineer onboard a variety of ships, specialising in bulk carriers, offshore diving support vessels, ultimately sailing as Chief Engineer Officer.

Vice President - Asset Development, Subsea 7

An experienced oil industry senior manager with strong technical and commercial skills. Over 30 years experience in subsea and pipeline engineering and construction, and production operations, with both an international Operator and Contractor.

Main recent responsibilities and achievements have been in the field of sophisticated new-build subsea construction and pipe-lay vessels with unrivalled track record in a multi-million dollar investment in a range of eleven sophisticated new-build vessels.

Also responsible for investigating a range of conversion options for stranded assets and in the review of heavy lift and cable lay vessels for offshore renewables.

Prior responsibilities include subsea and pipeline technology development, running a large engineering organization, and for field development and production operations for a large independent oil and gas company.
