Sustainability at Riviera Maritime Media

Sustainability at Riviera Maritime Media

Riviera Maritime Media is mindful of our impact on the planet and its finite resources and supportive of the maritime industry's green transition. We are committed to achieving net zero emissions in our own operations by 2050 and have a roadmap to achieve our goals, based on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Below are a few highlights we would like to share with you.

UN’s SDG 13: Climate Action

We are already supporting the decarbonisation of the maritime industry by bringing together major stakeholders to benchmark solutions at our events. We also keep the industry informed of new technologies and thought leading projects through our magazines, webinars, whitepapers and online communities.

For our people, we offer flexible working and work from home arrangements to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions from the daily commute.

We are also beginning to provide information on sustainable transport options for our event attendees and we are considering the sustainability of available transport modes when we decide on an event location.

Our next steps are to improve the sustainability of our staff travel and our freight, starting with capturing data on our supply chain emissions.

What does this mean for our customers?

  1. You can be assured that the knowledge acquired at our events will help to enable your company’s successful transition to net zero
  2. Your travel to our events will be consistent with your company’s sustainability goals and policies
  3. Potential to share positive news around the maritime industry’s green transition, by posting the most critical lessons learnt from our conferences

UN’s SDG 12. Responsible Consumption and Production

In support of the circular economy, we donate our used ICT equipment and leftover swag bags to local schools and charities.

At our events, we only use reusable badges and lanyards. We are also investing in reusable bamboo banner frames and other reusable event signage and staging. Next, we will be looking to ensure that any disposable on-site items are made of 90% recycled or sustainable materials and we are working with venues to reduce on-site waste.

For our magazines, we are already using compostable wrappings, printing on PEFC or FSC certified paper and, where possible, we print with vegetable-based inks. Long term, we are aiming to print on recycled paper, to further reduce our carbon footprint.

What does this mean for our customers?

  1. Assurance that there is minimal waste associated with your participation in our events or subscriptions to our publications, and that this footprint will continue to reduce in line with sustainability targets
  2. You will be supported by our guidance on how to reduce waste when exhibiting at our events
  3. Potential for positive stories to share with your networks around the sustainability measures in place for your exhibition stand or event attendance, to help promote more sustainable practices at maritime industry events

UN’s SDG 7. Affordable and Clean Energy

We have already installed LED sensor lights throughout the Riviera Maritime Media head office to cut down on our energy consumption.

Our next steps are to reduce the energy intensity of our data storage and ICT equipment.

We will also be working with our venue partners to improve the energy efficiency of our events and, where possible, working with venues that use renewable energy.

On top of this, our events and magazines share crucial industry knowledge and data on the most viable pathways for decarbonising the maritime industry.

What does this mean for our customers?

1. You can be assured that your brand is aligned to an environmentally ethical product when you work with Riviera Maritime Media
2. We are supporting your Scope 3 emissions reduction by reducing the environmental impact of our events and day-to-day operations
