Oceaneering International has secured vessel capacity for subsea maintenance and light construction work in the US Gulf of Mexico as demand increases in the region
The subsea engineering group has chartered Bordelon Marine’s 2015-built, 2,378-gt support vessel Brandon Bordelon for two years with firm employment to March 2026.
During this charter renewal, Lockport, Louisiana-headquartered Bordelon expects this 78-m, dynamic positioning DP2 vessel to undertake inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) and light construction and installation work. Oceaneering has an option to extend the contract for another year if required.
Brandon Bordelon, which has been operating in Port Fourchon, Louisiana, will be mobilised with two of Oceaneering’s Millennium Plus work-class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and Oceaneering survey equipment and technology.
It is typically used to conduct projects including ROV and diving support, pre-lay and post-lay mat installation, well abandonment and wireline services, IMR, hydrate remediation and subsea pumping.
“Oceaneering is a long-term partner, and the vessel is ideally suited to support Oceaneering’s light subsea intervention and IMR scopes under this charter for another two years,” said Bordelon Marine chief executive and president Wes Bordelon.
Bordelon Marine owns and operates a fleet of modern offshore support vessels ranging from 46-m DP1 mini-supply vessels to multipurpose 79-m DP2 subsea IMR vessels.
These US Jones Act-compliant offshore vessels support a multitude of activities, including construction and decommissioning support, ROV and dive support, oceanographic research and survey mapping.
Energy companies have increased their expenditures in the US Gulf on subsea installations and maintenance to keep the ageing infrastructure operating for longer and to develop new oil and gas fields as satellites to floating production systems in deep and ultra-deep waters.
